Inground hot tubs
There's always been a debate as to which are the best, inground hot tubs or above ground hot tubs. I can't pretend to have the answer to that one because I think they're both pretty good and it just depends on your own situation, how much money you have to spend, and more specifically, how much room you have available to you. Each have their pros and cons, it's true, but on this page I will focus mainly on inground hot tubs and discuss them in as much detail as I can muster.
There are many things to consider when thinking about purchasing and installing an inground hot tub. Cost is only the most immediate thing to consider, available space (and therefore size of the hot tub) is the next thing to consider. But apart from those two things, you need also worry about making a concrete pit, a pump house, wire and plumbing supplies, decking materials, and trenching equipment. If you are making or installing your own inground hot tub, these things are essential to consider and plan out accourdingly. If you are hiring a contractor or pool specialist to install for you, then obviously you won't be quite as concerned about these things. Even if you are hiring something though, it's still a good idea to be familiar with these things so that you can answer any specific questions your contractor may run into as he or she installs your specific unit.
Pros of inground hot tubs: Like I said earlier, there are definitely pros and cons here. One pro is that ingrounds are becoming more and more affordable. Gone are the days when only the very wealthy could afford one for their home. Inground hot tubs are far more durable and even a little more reliable than above ground models. This is mainly because they aren't exposed to the wear and tear of nature and the elements. Another pro is that they just look better. They blend where ever you have put them as opposed to sticking out like a sore thumb as many above ground hot tubs do. These are just a few pros, I'm sure you can think of a few more as well.
Cons on inground hot tubs: Yes there are many pros, but I must admit that there are plenty of downsides when it comes to inground hot tubs. For one thing, while they have come down in price greatly over the years; they're still a lot more expensive than your average above ground hot tub. And though it may not seem like it since they tend to blend in with their environment, ingrounds generally take up much more space than their counterparts. And they also almost always require professional installation (sorry, I know you do it yourselfers are itching to, well, do it yourself, but this may be beyond you). Think of them as mini swimming pools since that's basically what they are, you wouldn't expect to install your own inground pool would you?
Winter is generally a slow time for inground hot tub sales, so shop around then to get the best deals. The only downside, of course, is that you have to wait until spring usually to have the things installed! But, well, that's why you get such a great deal for buying in the winter.
