Hot Tub Filters

Once you shell out the big bucks for your hot tub, you quickly realize that you will need supplies, including hot tub filters! Like they say, a hot tub is a hole in the ground that you pour money into! No wait, that’s the definition of a boat…well it works here too!

Today I’m going to discuss the the many different options that you have when it comes to hot tub filters so that you know exactly what to expect and what to pay because if there’s one thing I hate it’s spending more than you need to, especially on something you already spent so much money on to begin with! So let’s start out with some popular filters and see where we go from there…

Before we go on I should note that the type of filter that you purchase will depend primarily and exclusively on the type of hot tub that you have. You can’t very often mix and match different filters from different hot tubs because they are designed to fit within the specific dimensions of your unit. So keep that in mind and don’t just go out and willy-nilly by some filters because they are cheap!

Spa-N- A- Box Spa Filters 4 pack at around $30 this is a fairly nice price for these type of things. These filters will not work for spas that have the filters in the pump which is something you want to determine before you go out and buy filters. These work for the old-style spa in a box where the filtration system was on the inside of the spa. The come as a four pack but you need to use them two at a time so keep that in mind. Realize that these are only about 6 inches long so if you have the newer spa a box it may take larger filters.

Pool/Spa Filter Cartridge Pleatco PMA10-M for Eco-pur replacement 2004 and later (MICROBAN) at around $18 this is a fairly good price for this filter. It is 3 7/8 inches in diameter and 7 1/8 inches in length and the top opens 2 1/8 inches and so does the bottom. This filter replaces the eco-pur replacement 2004 and later filter. It employs the free flow cores which believe it or not are specifically engineered to allow the even flow of water through the thing which should increase the filtration and use greater media surface to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and even algae.

Sundance Spas Hot Tub & Spa Filter, C-8320 at $56 this is obviously a slightly more expensive model. Pleatco filter part numbers: PSD125, PSD 125, it is 8 1/2 inches in diameter by 18 1/4 inches in length the top and castle bottom are 2 5/8 inches. Unicel filter part numbers: C-8320, C8320 and Filbur filter part numbers: FC-2750, FC2750 and Aquakleen filter part numbers: AK-7001, AK7001 which is fairly important so write those numbers down and remember them!

Unicel C-4950 Spa Filter and Pool Filter Cartridge at $17 this is a really decently priced filter that is 5 inches in diameter by 13 5/16 inches in length with the top that is open to and 1/8 inches and a bottom that is open to and 1/8 inches as well. Filter Media: REEMAY: 3 oz/yard – 25 sq. feet. This replaces several different OEM filters and therefore works in a number of different units.

So there you have several hot tub filters to choose from so you get an idea of what the different prices should be. As you can see they arranged generally from around $15 up to around $60 depending on your specific hot tub. And remember you generally can’t just buy a filter; it has to fit your specific tub so be sure and check the instructions that came with your tub for exact specifications.
